Das Vamana Purana(Sans. Vāmana Purāṇa) gehört zu den 18 Mahapuranas. Es wurde zwischen 900 - 1100 CE geschrieben und hat in den gedruckten Ausgaben bis zu 96 Kapitel. Das Padma Purana stuft es als Rajas - Purana ein.
Die heute erhaltenen Versionen unterscheiden sich vom Original und zeugen von verschiedenen Revisionen. Ein im Text erwähntes Brhad-vamana mit vier Samhita ging wohl verloren.
Das Purana ist der 5. Inkarnation Vishnus als Zwerg(Vamana) gewidmet.
Inhalt
Der Weise Narada befragt Pulastya über den Vamana - Zwergen - Avatar Vishnus. Es erwähnt die fünf Namen Vishnus : Kaaran Vaaman, Narayana, Amitvikram, Shaargang Chakra und Purushottam.
Der Text beinhaltet Glorifizierungen von Vishnu und besonders von Shiva. Es beschreibt verschiedenen Götter und die Rudras als Söhne von Kashyapa and Aditi.
