Vamana Purana: Unterschied zwischen den Versionen

Das Vamana Purana(Sans. Vāmana Purāṇa) gehört zu den 18 Mahapuranas. Es wurde zwischen 900 - 1100 CE geschrieben und hat in den gedruckten Ausgaben bis zu 96 Kapitel. Das Padma Purana stuft es als Rajas - Purana ein.
Die heute erhaltenen Versionen unterscheiden sich vom Original und zeugen von verschiedenen Revisionen. Ein im Text erwähntes Brhad-vamana mit vier Samhita ging wohl verloren.
Das Purana ist der 5. Inkarnation Vishnus als Zwerg(Vamana) gewidmet.

Inhalt

Der Weise Narada befragt Pulastya über den Vamana - Zwergen - Avatar Vishnus. Es erwähnt die fünf Namen Vishnus : Kaaran Vaaman, Narayana, Amitvikram, Shaargang Chakra und Purushottam.

Der Text beinhaltet Glorifizierungen von Vishnu und besonders von Shiva. Es beschreibt verschiedenen Götter und die Rudras als Söhne von Kashyapa and Aditi.

Dabeben enthält er wie in einem Purana üblich einige Kapitel über Kosmologie, Genalogie, Mythologie und über die Manavantare. Er beinhaltet auch das Saromahatmya, einen Leitfaden in 28 Kapiteln zu den Tirthas, Flüssen und Wäldern um Thanesar und Kurukshetra im heutigen Haryana.
