Kamakhya (Sans. Kāmākhyā; Kamakshya ) ist eine bedeutende Göttin des Begehrens(Kama), die im Gebiet des Vor-Himalaya in Kamrup von Assam in einem im 16ten Jahrhundert errichteten Tempel verehrt wird.
Kamakhya wird auch als komplexe Form von Kali, Tara, Shodashi[1] und von Maha Tripura Sundari angesehen.
Verschiedene tantrische Texte wie das Kamakhya Tantra, das Kalika Purana und das Yogini Tantra sind die Basis dieses Kultes.
Sadhana
Die Sadhana dient wie tantrisch üblich nicht der Erweckung sondern der Beseitigung von Begierden, welche die Mantrapraxis bewirkt.
Ein längeres Mantra ist Treem Treem Hoom Hoom Streem Streem Kamhkhye! - Praseed Streem Streem Hoom Hoom Treem Treem Treem Swaha . Ein anderes Mantra ist kāmākhye varade devī nīla parvata vāsinī tvaṁ devī jagataṁ mātā yonimudre namostute.
