Der Begriff Yana (Fahrzeug) bezieht sich auf spirituelle Praktiken im Buddhismus, die ganz linienspezifisch sein können. Hinayana und Mahayana werden auch als Sutrayana bezeichnet, welches vom Vajrayana abgelöst wurde. Aus dessen Sicht ist das Sutrayana das kausale Fahrzeug und das Tantrayana das Ergebnisfahrzeug.
Die verschiedenen Schulen kennen bis zu 12 Yanas
Die Vaibhāṣika Sarvāstivādins kannten 3 Fahrzeuge
- Śrāvakayāna (Hörer-Fahrzeug)
- Pratyekabuddhayāna (Einzel-Verwirklicher-Fahrzeug)
- Bodhisattvayāna (Bodhisattva-Fahrzeug)
Daneben bildete sich das integrative
- Ekayana - integraler Buddhismus
Zum tibetischen Anuttara-Yoga-Tantra zählen
- Kriya-Tantra
- Charyayoga (oder Upayoga)
- Yogatantra
- Semde (Unterklasse des Atiyoga , betont Den Klarheitsaspekt(gsal-ba) oder die innere Bewusstheit(rig-pa) )
- Longde (Unterklasse des Atiyoga, Raum-Serie mit Betonung der Leere (strong-pa) bzw. der Geräumigkeit(klong) ).
- Men(n)gagde - (Unterklasse des Atiyoga, geheime mündliche Anweisungen in 17 Tantras[1][2], die von Vimalamitra und Guru Padmasambhava nach Tibet überliefert wurden.
