Die Bhagavad Gita („der Gesang des Erhabenen“) ist eine der zentralen Schriften des Hinduismusses. Sie lehnt sich an die im Mahabharata erwähnte Schlacht zu Kurukshetra an ohne diese zu beschreiben.
Krishna gibt sich auf dem Schlachtfeld von Kurukshetra dem Fürsten Arjuna in einer Vision als göttlich - kosmisches Selbst zu erkennen. Die Gita erklärt Krishna in 10.12(−14) zum param brahma.
Die Schlacht selbst beschreibt symbolisch die Transmutation und die Beseitigung der behindernden lunaren Kräfte.
Die Gita ist eher als Allegorie anzusehen, als um ein Zwiegespräch zwischen der inneren Göttlichkeit, verkörpert durch Krishna, und der menschlichen Seele, die Arjuna darstellt
