Tantra ist ein im Hinduismus, im Shivaismus und im Buddhismus verwendeter Begriff. Im Hinduismus ist Tantra ein religiöser Stil von Ritualen (Vamamarga) und Meditation. Der Name wurde zuerst im Rigveda (X.71.9) erwähnt. Unterschieden wird der rechte Tantra, der rote Tantra(Sexualpraktiken) und der schwarze Tantra(Mißbrauch von Kräften).

- Yoga - (Atemübungen,Asanas) mit Willenskontrolle
- Mudras oder Gesten
- Mantras oder Sylben, Worte und Phrasen
- Nyasa - Visualisierung von Meditationsgottheiten
- Mandalas - Visualisierung
- Yantras
Die trantrischen Schriften sind vielfach in einer Geheimsprache (Sandhabhasa) formuliert so daß der Uneingeweihte wenig versteht oder mißversteht.
Buddhismus
Tantra ist im Buddhismus ein kompliziertes System welches im Anuttarayoga-Tantra beschrieben wird. Tantrische Yogatechniken sind daneben aufeinander aufbauend.
