Die 12 Nidānas (Pali/Sans.: nidāna : Ursache , Grund, Quelle, Ursprung)[1] sind eine Anwendung des buddhistischen pratītyasamutpāda - Konzeptes des abhängigen oder bedingten Entstehens. Sie decken avijja (Unwissenheit) als den Ursprung von dukkha (Leiden) auf.
Sie werden auch in Dīgha Nikāya Sutta 1 und 14 und im Brahmajala Sutta, Vers 3.71 beschrieben.
