Die tantrische Göttin Kubjika ist eine besonders im Kaula praktizierte Gottheit, die sorgfältig geheimgehalten wurde und erst im letzen Jahrhundert bekannt wurde.
Die in den ersten Bhairava - Tantras und dann in den Kaula Tantras entstandenen Göttinnen wie Kubjikā markieren den Lauf der Entwicklung.
Dieses Phänomen fällt mit der immensen Verbreitung von Massen kleinerer Formen und ihrer spontanen Ordnung in die Pantheons zusammen. Diese werden definiert durch ihre Zusammenstellung in Gruppen, die symmetrisch in den Mandalas der Gottheiten arragniert sind, die im Mittelpunkt des Kultes stehen.
Kubjika wird in ihren Tantras unterschiedlich angesprochen: Kubjinī – das buckelige Mädchen, Kubjī, Kujā, Kujī, Khañjinī – die Lahmende, Vakrikā oder Vakrā – die krüppelige, Ciñcinī – die Göttin des Tamarind, Kulālikā – die Keramikherstellerin, Ambā, deren volkstümliche Form Avvā, und Anāmā, Laghvikā und der üblichste Name Śrī – die Königliche, die Schrift, Unterricht,Schule und Tradition hat(anvaya, āmnāya), die Śrīmata,[1] die auch im Sri Vidya verehrt wird.
