Bhatta Kallata war ein Schüler von Vasugupta. Er gilt als Author des Spanda vritti und soll auch das Spanda Karika verfasst bzw. evtl. nur in Umlauf gebracht haben. Nach der Chronik Rājatarangiṇī (Rājataraṃgiṇī "Fluss der Könige") lebte er im neunten Jahrhundert.
