Franciscus Mercurius van Helmont (* vor 20. Oktober 1614 (Taufdatum) in Vilvoorde, Flämisch-Brabant; † 1699 in Cölln bei Berlin) war der Sohn des Universalwissenschaftlers Johan Baptista van Helmont, der als Kind seiner Zeit ein Anhänger der Hermetischen Lehre war.
Helmont wurde wie sein flämischer Vater ein Universalgelehrter, Schriftsteller und Diplomat, daneben ein Reformer auf dem Gebiet der Medizin und Anthropologie. Helmont veröffentlichte 1648 die Werke seines Vaters unter dem Titel Ortus Medicinae, der, ausgehend von der Alchimie, ein Wegbereiter der wissenschaftlichen Chemie war.
Nach dem Tod seines Vaters 1644 verzichtete Helmont auf sein Erbe und begann eine Art Eremitenleben. Neben hermetischen, alchemischen und medizinischen Arbeiten beschäftigte Helmont sich vor allem mit Theosophie und Kabbala. Er arbeitete mit Henry More, einem Vertreter der Cambridger Platoniker, bei Übersetzungen kabbalistischer Texte von Christian Knorr von Rosenroth zusammen.
